Re: Spamming issue

1: force all users to use strong passwords.
2: set a global throttle limit, ie. 100 emails per hour. this will help reduce outbound spams.

iRedMail has a global sieve filter rule: /var/vmail/sieve/dovecot.sieve, you can modify this file for global sieve rules, it's also possible to write rules for specified users with proper condition directives.

Re: Email is being rejected

1: on your iRedMail server, whitelist this ip address in file /etc/postfix/postscreen_access.cidr.
2: ask the sysadmin of this sender server to remove this ip from https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/ Otherwise it will be rejected by all mail servers which use spamhaus as DNSBL service.

Note: #1 is just temporary solution, if sysadmin of sender server finished #2, you can remove the whitelist on your server.

Mysql daily backups are created in /var/vmail/backup/mysql, at least in iRedMail 0.9.8.

"iRedMail uses slapd.conf by default, not the "slapd.d". You need to update /etc/openldap/slapd.conf instead."

But isn't that extremly old style and LDAP admins are strongly advised to use slapd.d?

Is there any posibility to manage sieve rules for specified users via iredadmin panel?

My office is planning to move the mail server to a new server, and since the (new) guy who will manage it is more proficient on redhat family, there have been talks about changing the distribution to CentOS.

I've been reading documentation about migrating. I know that there are version differences between distribution (with Debian tends to includes newer software than CentOS.)

My question is: Can  it be done? Is the exported data have any version specific thing in them? are there any precedence?

Hi all, i have 2 question about mlmmj.
1) I create via IredAdmin-Pro a list call test1@mydomain.com which have some external ( not in mydomain.com) mail and i set the option that only domain member can send to the list.
Then sender@mydomain.com via TB send a mail to test1@mydomain.com in BCC.
Someone reply to this email, but the destination address was test1@mydomain.com not sender@mydomain.com.
Why?

2) When i assign an admin (is a normal mail user) to test1@mydomain.com, why in ired panel of admin there is not the tab mailing-list?

Thanks in advance,

Sorry for my english.

Hi, I the problem is that I don't know all the ips that the other party uses for mail delivery.

What I did in /etc/postfix/main.cf was setting the following to ignore:

postscreen_greet_action = ignore
postscreen_blacklist_action = ignore
postscreen_dnsbl_action = ignore

and commented this
#postscreen_dnsbl_sites =
#    zen.spamhaus.org=127.0.0.[2..11]*3
#    b.barracudacentral.org=127.0.0.2*2

I'm waiting to see if the problem was solved or not.

It seems to be a FreeBSD ports issue independent of O/S version

When /usr/ports/sysutils/file is installed, /usr/ports/Mk/Scripts/find-lib.sh ends up using it if $PATH puts /usr/local/bin first - the result is that it gives this:

> file -b -L --mime-type /usr/local/lib/liblzo2.so
application/x-pie-executable

rather than what /usr/bin/file gives:

> /usr/bin/file -b -L --mime-type /usr/local/lib/liblzo2.so
application/x-sharedlib

When /usr/local/bin/file is used, this test in /usr/ports/Mk/Scripts/find-lib.sh fails:

[ "$(file -b -L --mime-type ${libfile})" = "application/x-sharedlib" ]

So, when any port Makefile uses the "LIB_DEPENDS= " construct, the port incorrectly rebuilds the dependency because it is marked as non-existent

Suggested fixes:

1. use absolute path in /usr/ports/Mk/Scripts/find-lib.sh:

   [ "$(/usr/bin/file -b -L --mime-type ${libfile})" = "application/x-sharedlib" ]

2. change test to also recognise "application/x-pie-executable" as a valid shared library object

3. change /usr/ports/sysutils/file to return "application/x-sharedlib" when a FreeBSD lib*.so shared library object is encountered

4. all of the above

this has been reported as a FreeBSD bug: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_ … ?id=231554

Need advice migrating between domains and servers

Hello,
Hoping someone can provide a suggestion on best practice and any iRedMail configuration changes that could facilitate.

We have an existing mail server and domain, and a new domain and new iRedMail server setup for it (LDAP backend). We have only 1 internet facing IP.

We need to keep the old domain and server running for some time, while the new iRedMail is up and running, until we reach a point we can fully retire the old one.

Which creates a problem since we can only port forward to one address, and domain is not at the tcp layer of course.

The topology currently looks a bit like this:
domainA.com mx -> 1.2.3.4:25
domainB.com mx -> 1.2.3.4:25

WAN 1.2.3.4:25 ->port forward-> LAN 192.168.0.10:25

mail servers:
    internal-domainA-server:25 (old mail domain/server)
    internal-domainB-server:25 (new mail domain/server, iredmail)

currently: 192.168.0.10:25 is internal-domainA-server.

New domainB is not live on the internet (for receiving)... yet.

For most internally hosted services we are able to reverse proxy with nginx to work around the issues of only a single internet facing IP. Purchasing another public IP is not option for us.

What would be some solution options to be able to do something similar with the mail? I am thinking a mail relay might be the answer.
And if that is the case...
With iRedMail (not pro, I wish I could afford it, maybe someday there will be an smaller SOHO option), would it be possible to add to our new iredmail server configuration a second domain (of our legacy domain), and configure that to only relay those inbound (from internet) messages on to the proper server (internal-domainA-server)?  And thus enable us to put the new iRedMail server into the firewalls port forwarding configuration replacing the old one. (We want to get rid of the old domain, and don't want to migrate it and all the mail/accounts/etc).

Or if iRedMail non pro cannot be setup this way in a simple manner, it is not a big deal for us to load another vm, is there a suggested setup which would do some smtp relay and then split and relay each domains incoming internet mail to the appropriate mail server?

Or if this is not the right route, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Continuing to dig on this... Or maybe a mail 'gateway' is what we are needing?

We have a lot of tech and developer expertise here but mail is not our thing. ; )

Still wondering if we can somehow utilize the new iRedMail server setup to achieve this.

Or if a new vm with a gateway is the thing to do, are there any open source community editions (aka free) which can support 2 domains?

Thanks again

Hi all,

I'm trying to fight some annoying spammers. They send me emails and passing all the Greylisting, SPF, and DKIM checks (I have all this enabled as in official iRedMail installation docs). The content of the messages look pretty relevant and differs every time so there is no chance to teach any spam filter to recognise this messages as spam. They change their domain names every time, IPs, and providers, but I noticed most of the time they use same usernames in sender addresses. iRedMail documentation clearly states I can block a user, a domain, an IP, a domain and all its subdomains, and all senders.

My question is how to blacklist sender address using wildcard domains like this: "senders@*"? Or even better: "senders@*.com"? They use "senders@*dynamic*domain*name*" and "bounce@*dynamic*domain*name*". I don't expect emails from "senders" and "bounce" users of any domain name.

Are there any other ways to fight this annoying guys?
