Re: Maillist User Deletion Issue

In my other working server I have port 25 enabled in the firewall. Not enabled by the support EC2.
I have a webserver in Forge on Amazon EC2 and enabled with IAM user. Works perfectly. You could have that in Easy_Server. smile
At the moment my letsencrypt/domain is blocked so I have to wait till after Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all of you....

- Amazon EC2 blocks port 25 by default, you need to contact Amazon support and ask them to unblock port 25.
- Also double check the EC2 firewall (managed in your Amazon AWS console), make sure it doesn't block port 25.

I'm running .0.9.7.

I tarr'd /var/vmail/vmail1/* into a large file and copied that file to a second system.
If my original system dies today, does that tar file contain ALL my emails from 1 first to the most current at the time the system did it's daily dump?

I understand that no settings were copied, but all emails, attachments, etc.  So that if I have to import it into 'something' it's all there?

Thanks for a pre-holiday sanity/safety check <g>.

Yes. /var/vmail/vmail1/ (this is default mailbox storage path) contains all mail messages, including mail attachments ('maildir' mailbox format).

I have installed the latest update, but I still have problems with domain aliases, sometimes I can enter one, but not two sometimes ist doesn't save any at all.
Should this have been fixed or do we need to wait for another update?

Hi @mbitcon,

Excuse me, which domain alias issue are you talking about? Could you please create a new forum topic with detailed explanation?

- How did you configure letsencrypt cert? We have a tutorial for you: https://docs.iredmail.org/letsencrypt.html
- Does OpenLDAP daemon user have privilege to access letsencrypt cert?
- If openldap is only serving local requests, it's better to disable ssl cert in /etc/ldap/slapd.conf.

Hotfix for iRedMail-0.9.9: fix improper SQL/LDAP queries in Dovecot

$

Dear all,

We just found one issue in the newly released iRedMail-0.9.9, please follow the instruction below to fix it.

- iRedMail-0.9.9 has been repacked with this fix.
- iRedMail upgrade tutorial for iRedMail-0.9.9 has been updated with this fix.

About the issue

The SQL/LDAP query used by Dovecot introduced in iRedMail-0.9.9 doesn't convert upper cases to lower cases.

- If you always store maildir paths in lower cases, this issue doesn't impact your server.
- If you have maildir paths in upper cases, this issue will impact your server. When user logs in, Dovecot will create a new empty mailbox for the user.

Affected iRedMail releases

- iRedMail-0.9.9
- old iRedMail releases which upgraded to iRedMail-0.9.9 manually
- iRedMail Easy (version: 2018121701. To fix it, just login to iRedMail Easy https://easy.iredmail.org, go to mail server list page, you will find an icon which indicates there's a new version available for upgrade, click it to go to Deployment page, click the Upgrade button. That's it.)

How to fix it

For OpenLDAP and OpenBSD ldapd backends, find one line in /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf (Linux/OpenBSD) or /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf (FreeBSD) like below:

user_attrs      = mail=master_user,mail=user,homeDirectory=home,=mail=%{ldap:mailboxFormat:maildir}:~/%{ldap:mailboxFolder:Maildir}/,mailQuota=quota_rule=*:bytes=%$

Replace it by:

user_attrs      = mail=master_user,mail=user,=home=%L{ldap:homeDirectory},=mail=%{ldap:mailboxFormat:maildir}:~/%{ldap:mailboxFolder:Maildir}/,mailQuota=quota_rule=*:bytes=%$

For MySQL/MariaDB backends, find lines in /etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql.conf (Linux/OpenBSD) or /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot-mysql.conf (FreeBSD) like below:

            CONCAT(mailbox.storagebasedirectory, '/', mailbox.storagenode, '/', mailbox.maildir) AS home, \
            CONCAT(mailbox.mailboxformat, ':', mailbox.storagebasedirectory, '/', mailbox.storagenode, '/', mailbox.maildir, '/', mailbox.mailboxfolder, '/') AS mail, \

Replace above 2 lines by:

            LOWER(CONCAT(mailbox.storagebasedirectory, '/', mailbox.storagenode, '/', mailbox.maildir)) AS home, \
            CONCAT(mailbox.mailboxformat, ':~/', mailbox.mailboxfolder, '/') AS mail, \

For PostgreSQL backend with PostgreSQL 8.x, find lines in /etc/dovecot/dovecot-pgsql.conf (Linux/OpenBSD) or /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot-pgsql.conf (FreeBSD) like below:

    mailbox.storagebasedirectory || '/' || mailbox.storagenode || '/' || mailbox.maildir AS home, \
    mailbox.mailboxformat || ':' || mailbox.storagebasedirectory || '/' || mailbox.storagenode || '/' || mailbox.maildir || '/' || mailbox.mailboxfolder || '/' AS mail, \

Replace above 2 lines by:

    LOWER(mailbox.storagebasedirectory || '/' || mailbox.storagenode || '/' || mailbox.maildir) AS home, \
    LOWER(mailbox.mailboxformat || ':~/' || mailbox.mailboxfolder || '/') AS mail, \

For PostgreSQL backend with PostgreSQL 9.x and later versions, find lines in /etc/dovecot/dovecot-pgsql.conf (Linux/OpenBSD) or /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot-pgsql.conf (FreeBSD) like below:

            CONCAT(mailbox.storagebasedirectory, '/', mailbox.storagenode, '/', mailbox.maildir) AS home, \
            CONCAT(mailbox.mailboxformat, ':', mailbox.storagebasedirectory, '/', mailbox.storagenode, '/', mailbox.maildir, '/', mailbox.mailboxfolder, '/') AS mail, \

Replace above 2 lines by:

            LOWER(CONCAT(mailbox.storagebasedirectory, '/', mailbox.storagenode, '/', mailbox.maildir)) AS home, \
            CONCAT(mailbox.mailboxformat, ':~/', mailbox.mailboxfolder, '/') AS mail, \

I installed pflogsumm so that every day I receive an email with the details of the activities of my Mail Server. I'm mainly interested in understanding the number of messages discarded by the server. In particular:

message reject detail
---------------------
 RCPT
   Helo command rejected: Host not found (total: 2)
          2   198.252.108.183
   Recipient address rejected: Intentional policy rejection (total: 60)
         56   vincenzo@server.eu
          1   piero@server.eu
          1   ilaria@server.it

Is there an easy way to go to view the senders of 4xx errors without needing to analyze the log directly? Thanks for your help.

I can log onto iredadmin, and have created a user in two domains. However test mail messages sent from my usual server and from gmail are indefinitely delayed. A day after sending them, I am still seeing mail log entries like this every 5 minutes for each incoming message:

Dec 24 10:31:54 xxxxxx postfix/qmgr[7079]: 43NC4f3tSjz11Zf: from=<xxxxxx@gmail.com>, size=3860, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Dec 24 10:31:54 xxxxxx postfix/pipe[1326]: 43NC4f3tSjz11Zf: to=<richard@xxxxxx.fr>, relay=dovecot, delay=50792, delays=50792/0.03/0/0.08, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (temporary failure)

I can log into sogo but not to roundcube.  When using roundcube, I see the following error in mail.log:

IMAP Error: Login failed for postmaster@xxxxxx.fr from 111.111.111.111 LOGIN: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. in /opt/www/roundcubemail-1.3.8/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_imap.php on line 196 (POST /mail/?_task=login&_action=login)

It says "refer to server log" but I am unsure which log it means. I have not yet found anything else useful in the logs, but may not be looking in the right places. I tried resetting the password for my own username, but the new password is not accepted either. Just a few failed logons result in fail2ban blocking access, so it is all very frustrating.

In sogo, I see only a message that no mailbox is open. Calendar and addressbook appear to be available.

To be honest, I am on the point of giving up after a week of failures.

I'm afraid that analyzing the log file is the only way.

Ah, that is the place to look! Here is what I found.

----------------------------------
dovecot.log every half hour:

Dec 23 18:19:58 courriel dovecot: imap: Error: Invalid user settings. Refer to server log for more information

---------------------------------
imap.log frequently:

Dec 23 18:20:18 courriel dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<postmaster@xxxxxx.fr>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, mpid=10943, secured, session=<BFHFsbN9vNJ/AAAB>

and:

Dec 23 19:39:41 courriel dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (auth failed, 1 attempts in 2 secs): user=<eaudevichy>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, secured, session=<OvKJzbR9hO1/AAAB>
Dec 23 20:08:07 courriel dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<postmaster@xxxxxx.fr>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, mpid=13411, secured, session=<e/VRM7V96Ih/AAAB>

------------------------------------
lda.log every 5min:

Dec 23 20:26:54 courriel dovecot: lda(richard@xxxxxx.fr): Error: User initialization failed: Namespace '': Ambiguous mail location setting, don't know what to do with it: maildir~/Maildir/ (try prefixing it with mbox: or maildir:)

----------------------------------
pop3.log empty -- unsurprisingly, who uses pop3 these days?

----------------------------------
sieve.log also empty.  Obviously something to do with filtering, but I do not know what 'sieve' is in this context.

-----------------------------------
It clearly lacks data that I presumably need to manually add in some database table, but which?
